DAY 1 London - Salisbury - Plymouth Greetings as we head through Salisbury to view its fine Cathedral. Then across Salisbury Plain we see mysterious Stonehenge. In the afternoon, we continue to the naval city of Plymouth, port of departure for the Pilgrim Fathers. Later before dinner at our hotel, we enjoy a welcome drink with our Tour Director. (D) DAY 2 Plymouth - St. Michael's Mount - St. Ives - Barnstaple After breakfast our morning drive takes us to Penzance to view St. Michael's Mount. Then on to the colourful village of St. Ives before a beautiful drive through north Cornwall and Bodmin Moor making a stop at Daphne du Maurier's 'Jamaica Inn'. Next we continue to our hotel in Barnstaple. (FB D) DAY 3 Barnstaple - Bath - Cardiff Today we drive by Exmoor on our way to King Arthur's Glastonbury to visit the Abbey ruins. Next we drive to historic Bath where an orientation includes a visit to the Roman Baths. Then, we cross the Severn Bridge to Cardiff, Wales' capital. (FB D) DAY 4 Cardiff - Waterford This morning there's a chance to view the famous Castle before we travel across Wales to Pembroke. Here we board our ferry and cruise across the Irish Sea. On our arrival in Ireland, we join and coach and drive to Waterford for the night. (FB D) DAY 5 Waterford - Killarney Today after breakfast we visit the Waterford Crystal showroom before driving via Cork. Then on to Blarney Castle with a chance to kiss the famous stone and acquire the 'gift of the gab'. Finally, we drive to Killarney, with its beautiful lakes for the night. (FB) DAY 6 Killarney - Ring of Kerry - Limerick Today we experience Ireland's most scenic coastal drive, around the 'Ring of Kerry', County Kerry's largest peninsula. Its varied landscape is truly a photographer's delight. On our journey we will also see Killorglin (of Puck Fair fame), Daniel O'Connell's Cahirciveen, the fishing village of Waterville, the Black Valley and Molls' Gap. Then we continue our journey on to Limerick, where we spend the night. (FB) DAY 7 Limerick - Galway - Dublin (2) This morning the Emerald Isle's scenery rolls by as we make our way to Galway. Then on past Ballinasloe and Athlone en route to the 'fair city' of Dublin for two nights. (FB) DAY 8 Dublin sightseeing & at leisure Trinity College, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Phoenix Park and many other notable landmarks feature on our morning sightseeing tour. The rest of your day is at leisure. Tonight, perhaps join your fellow travelling companions at an Irish Cabaret. (FB) DAY 9 Dublin - Chester - Liverpool Today we board our ferry for the return cruise across the Irish Sea to Holyhead on Anglesey island. We join our coach and drive along the North Wales Coast to Chester to admire the buildings and galleried 'Rows'. On to Liverpool for the night. (FB D) DAY 10 Liverpool - Lake District - Edinburgh (2) A morning drive through the English Lake District brings us to Grasmere, the great poet Wordsworth's home. Then on to the Scottish border stopping to visit Moffat Woollens en route to Edinburgh, Scotland's capital. This evening, we enjoy Scottish hospitality at dinner in a local restaurant. During the Festival, we include tickets to the spectacular Edinburgh Tattoo. (FB) (HD) DAY 11 Edinburgh sightseeing & at leisure After breakfast our morning sightseeing tour includes Princes Street and the Royal Mile plus we make a visit to Edinburgh Castle. Next we will view Holyrood House, once the home of Mary Queen of Scots. The rest of your day is at leisure. Perhaps shop for tartans and tweeds or sample some delicious shortbread. This evening, there's a chance to enjoy a traditional Scottish night out with haggis, dancing and bagpipes! (FB) DAY 12 Edinburgh - St. Andrews - Scottish Highlands Today we enjoy a senic drive into the Highlands. Our first stop will be at St. Andrews Golf Course. Then we continue via Dundee and Perth to Pitlochry. From here we make our way past Blair Atholl to our hotel in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. We have dinner at our hotel this evening. (FB D) DAY 13 Scottish Highlands - Loch Ness - Isle of Skye Our day begins with a visit Culloden, site of the famous battle. Then we drive along the beautiful shores of Loch Ness, to the West Coast of Scotland and the Kyle of Lochalsh. Next, we cross 'over the sea to Skye' with time to explore the Isle before dinner at our hotel tonight. (FB D) DAY 14 Isle of Skye - Glasgow This morning we head back to the Scottish mainland and to Fort William within sight of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. From here we are off to the 'Vale of Weeping' at Glencoe before we drive by the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond to Glasgow for the night. On our arrival an orientation tour will show us the highlights of this bustling city. Your evening is at leisure. (FB) DAY 15 Glasgow - York - Harrogate This morning we cross Scottish borderland country and Northumberland National Park to see Hadrian's Wall. Then we head to York where this city's history is written in its narrow cobbled streets, timbered houses and famous Minster. Tonight, we'll enjoy traditional Yorkshire hospitality at dinner in a pub before reaching our hotel in Harrogate, where we spend the night. (FB) (HD) DAY 16 Harrogate - Coventry - Stratford - London Today's drive takes us through the Midlands to Coventry,home of Lady Godiva. Here we will see the new and old Cathedrals before making our way to Stratford-upon-Avon to visit Shakespeare's birthplace and see Anne Hathaway's cottage. Later,we continue on through the scenic Cotswolds, dotted with the golden sandstone of thatched cottages en route back to London. (FB) |
