Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrive Lisbon

You are met at Lisbon airport and transferred to your hotel.  A late afternoon sightseeing tour with a local guide shows us the  Belem Tower, the Monument to the Explorers and Hieronymite Monastery. This evening,  we enjoy a welcome drink with your Tour Director and fellow travelling companions.

DAY 2 Lisbon - Madrid (2)

It's an early start this morning as we cross the magnificent Vasco de Gama Bridge. We continue via  the ruins of the fortified town of Montemor-o-Novo on our way to the Spanish border. Next we travel via Merida and Talavera en route to Madrid. (BB)

DAY 3 Madrid sightseeing & at leisure

Today's guided sightseeing tour shows us the Puerta del Sol and the Cervantes Memorial, as well as the Plaza Mayor with its ancient buildings. Then time is your own, perhaps to take a trip to the Escorial or to visit the famous Prado Museum. (BB)

DAY 4 Madrid - Granada

We travel to ancient Toledo,  capital of Castile, where our sightseeing tour with a local guide includes visits to the El Greco masterpiece, Synagogue and a steel workshop.  After some time at leisure we make our way to the hilltop town of Granada. (BB D)

DAY 5 Granada - Tangier (2)

Today's first highlight will be a visit to the exquisite Alhambra Palace. Then we drive to the Costa del Sol stopping in the resort of Marbella. Next along the coast to Algeciras where we board our ferry and cruise to Morocco and Tangier our first night in Africa! (BB D)

DAY 6 Tangier sightseeing & at leisure

After breakfast our sightseeing tour shows us the residential quarter, the Arabic mosque and Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. Next we'll visit  the 'casbah', where you can haggle over carpets. Tonight, why not enjoy a delicious  Moroccan dinner with belly-dancing and live music? (BB)

DAY 7 Tangier - Seville (2)

We board our ferry and cruise back to Spain, across the Strait of Gibraltar, viewing the famous Rock. From here we rejoin our coach and travel through the Jerez vineyards to Seville, for two nights. This evening, why not enjoy a fiery flamenco show? (BB D)

DAY 8 Seville sightseeing & at leisure

Today's sightseeing  tour includes the Giralda Tower and the Maria Luisa Park. Then there's time at leisure to perhaps visit the famous bullring or to take an optional  cruise along the Guadalquivir. Tonight, we will enjoy a dinner of Andalusian specialities in a downtown restaurant in the old town. (BB) (HD)

DAY 9 Seville - Lisbon

Today we travel via the 'Jabugo' producing region of Spain into the Alentejo region of Portugal, famous for its cork forests. Soon we arrive in Lisbon, Portugal's capital. Why not  spend the evening listening to haunting Fado melodies along the Bairro Alto? (BB)

DAY 10 Depart Lisbon

This morning time to bid farewell to your  new-found friends and Tour Director as we transfer you to the airport for your return flight home. (BB)
