DAY 1 Arrive Copenhagen (2) On arrival at Copenhagen airport you are met and transferred to your hotel. After check-in there's time to relax, unwind and perhaps explore Scandinavia's liveliest city. This evening, enjoy a welcome drink with your Tour Director and fellow travelling companions. DAY 2 Copenhagen sightseeing & at leisure Our morning sightseeing tour includes highlights such as the Stock Exchange and the Amalienborg and Christiansborg Palaces. Then, guarding the harbour we'll see the Little Mermaid - the statue inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's sad fairytale. Later, there's time at leisure to do as you please, perhaps shop or explore further. This evening why not visit the famous Tivoli Gardens and enjoy a traditional Danish dinner? (SB) DAY 3 Copenhagen - Odense - Aalborg After breakfast this morning we head west, and cross the bridge to the Island of Funen and the town of Odense, Hans Christian Anderson's birthplace. From here, we will cross to the Jutland Peninsula en route to Aalborg, a charming mixture of old and new, for dinner and overnight stay. (SB D) DAY 4 Aalborg - Stavanger (2) An early start as we head to Hirsthals where we board our ship to cross the Skagerrak to the port of Kristiansand in Norway. After we disembark we join our coach and drive via Mandal and Flekkefjord to Stavanger, one of Norway's oldest towns. (SB D) DAY 5 Stavanger at leisure A full day at leisure in this lively city. Perhaps explore the Cathedral, the old town with its picturesque alleyways and the market square. Or you may wish to take an optional excursion to the incredible Lysefjord, and see the famous Pulpit Rock. (SB) DAY 6 Stavanger - Bergen After breakfast we enjoy an amazing journey today as we island-hop from Stavanger to the "Capital of the Fjords" Bergen. On this coastal highway we cruise fjords and pass islands on this spectacular coastline. We arrive in Bergen at lunchtime and experience the history of this picturesque city on our orientation tour. We will enjoy views of the 13th century Haakons Hall and the bustling fish market. Dinner will be served at our hotel this evening. (SB D) DAY 7 Bergen - Sognefjord (Leikanger) This morning we travel to the ski resort of Voss where you will have the opportunity to take a trip on the Flam mountain railway. Then we cross the magnificent Sognefjord to our hotel at Leikanger for dinner and our overnight stay. (SB D) DAY 8 Sognefjord (Leikanger) - Aalesund Today's drive will take us along the spectacular Sognefjord and up through the mountains before we enter the narrow Fjaelandfjord. From here we continue through rugged scenery to the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. Then we cross the Storfjord by ferry and head to the port of Aalesund, where we spend the night. This unique town is an architectural gem of Art Nouveau style, which was totally rebuilt after a fire at the beginning of the last century. This evening we dine at our hotel. (SB D) DAY 9 Aalesund - Geiranger After breakfast this morning our journey takes us inland through Eidstad and along the famous Eagle's Road, climbing in zig-zags amongst spectacular scenery. We'll have wonderful views of the Geirangerfjord as we descend to Geiranger. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax in this stunning setting. (SB D) DAY 10 Geiranger - Lom - Lillehammer Today we enjoy breathtaking views as we drive out of Geiranger. Then along Ottadalen we stop to visit the traditional Stave Church at Lom. From here we continue through the Gudbrandsdal Valley, inspiration for Ibsen's 'Peer Gynt', to the home of the 1994 Winter Olympics - Lillehammer, where we spend the night. Before dinner at the hotel, why not take a walk along Storgata or perhaps visit the open air museum at Maihaugan? (SB D) DAY 11 Lillehammer - Hamar - Oslo Our first stop this morning is at lakeside Hamar. Here we view the unusual ice rink built for the Olympics, before making our way to Norway's capital, Oslo. On our arrival a guided sightseeing tour highlights the Old Cathedral, the Royal Palace and a visit to the Vigeland Sculpture Park. After the rest of your day is at leisure. Maybe visit the Kon-Tiki raft, view the Olympic ski-jump at Holmenkollen or perhaps shop for sweaters and silverware. (SB) DAY 12 Oslo - Stockholm (2) Today we travel across the border into Sweden. From here we will continue via Karlstad on Lake Vanern, and past the city of Orebro to the island-ringed capital, Stockholm for our two-night stay. Here the cobbled streets and medieval buildings of the Old Town contrast with its ultra-modern city centre. (SB D) DAY 13 Stockholm sightseeing & at leisure The charms of this city are revealed on our morning sightseeing tour with a local guide. We'll see the medieval Storkyrkan, Riddarholm church, the Royal Palace, plus a visit to the waterside City Hall, where the Nobel prize banquets are held. Later, there's time at leisure to browse through the fashionable stores or perhaps to visit the Skansen Folklore Museum, the choice is all yours. This evening, we dine at our hotel. (SB D) DAY 14 Stockholm - Copenhagen This morning we head towards Lake Vattern and the resort town of Granna with its old wooden houses and the ruins of Brahehus Castle. From here we continue through meadows and forests to the coast where we cross the Oresund and are soon back in the Danish capital, Copenhagen for the final night of our tour. Tonight, why not join your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner? (SB) DAY 15 Depart Copenhagen Time to bid farewell as we transfer you to the airport for your return flight home. (SB) |
